Sybase ships limited Exchange and Domino on iPhone

March 19th, 2008 by IPhone Atlas

Far from the elegance of Apple's forthcoming native Exchange support but not postponed until June, the iAnywhere suite for iPhone from Sybase will begin shipping in the next two weeks.

iAnywhere, essentially, acts as a middle-man between Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domnio servers, providing IMAP and SMTP accessible Exchange/Domino services to the iPhone while requiring no changes to the actual mail servers. This allows companies to maintain security by keeping IMAP closed, but offer access through the iPhone's native Mail client rather than a Web-based interface. iAnywhere also offers features such as restricting attachments, preventing user access and removing email data from a remote device.

The iAnywhere suite also offers a Web interface to server-stored contacts.

Sybase says the product will be available by the end of March 2008, giving it a two-to-three month lead time on Apple's native (Exchange-only) solution which is promised some time in June.
