A history of plasma panels

The plasma display was officially invented in 1964 by Slottow and Bitzer of the University of Illinois. Weber got his start in the plasma industry as a student of theirs in the late '60s. Here is an early plasma panel attached to a complex vacuum system. The arrow shows the panel itself, which measured 1x1 inch and included much of the same technology as the plasma TVs in living rooms today.
