August 23rd, 2007 by Brendon Chase
Apple is ramping up efforts to open its first Apple Store in Australia with the company actively recruiting staff.
Apple Australia's job site has begun listing opportunities to staff its planned new store in Sydney's CBD. The company is searching for a store manager, business consultants, "Mac Genius'", cashiers, and phone operators.
The store will be located on King Street, and is reported by Computer Daily News(CDN) to feature avant-garde design, spanning over three levels with a "glowing 10-foot Apple logo suspended between levels two and three".
Apple Store's first properties appeared in 2001 with the opening of two stores in the United States. The company has since opened 183 stores around the world including Japan, Italy, UK, and Canada.
Competition for jobs to work in the US Apple Stores is reported to be high. One in 17 applicants are accepted and Apple's Senior Vice President, Retail, Ron Johnson , has previously reported to have said "it's tougher to be hired than being accepted by Stanford University."
No date for the opening of the new store in Sydney has been released.
