In its April Guide to Greener Electronics, Greenpeace gave Apple a rotten score, ranking it the lowest on its list of enviromentally friendly tech companies.

It looks like Apple took notice -- the company has devoted two weekends in July to a green initiative in which any brand of PC, printer or peripheral can be handed over for free recycling.

The recycling will take place at five Sydney locations on July 21-22 and six Melbourne sites on July 27-28. There is no limit on the number of weathered gadgets you can bring, but Apple will not be accepting the following items:

• copiers
• televisions
• overhead projectors
• non-computer batteries not integral to computer systems
• cracked or broken CRT monitors
• UPS units
• contaminated equipment of any kind
• universal or hazardous waste prohibited by local, state or federal government

If you've amassed a heap of old printer cartridges, this is your chance to toss them with good conscience -- dedicated recycling bins will be available at the sites.
