iPod Playlists: What are you listening to now?

July 16th, 2007 by Staff writers

iPod playlistHere at AppleSource we're always in search of new music to add to our digital music players so we thought we'd add a weekly segment called "iPod Playlists" to share our finds. However, this isn't a one way street, we want to hear your recommendations as well. For our first week we asked some of the people behind the scenes at AppleSource what they are listening to right now.

For better or worse, here is a taste of the music powering AppleSource this week.

What are you listening to now?

tommc.png> Ella Morton
Artist: Tom McRae
Songs: Walking 2 Hawaii, The Boy With the Bubblegun, You Only Disappear
"A far-flung friend with a finely-tuned ear introduced me to this artist last week. I'm on a singer-songwriter kick at the moment, and Tom McRae's stuff is dreamy, haunting and stare-out-the-train-window wonderful."

badreligion.png> Ty Pendlebury
Artist: Bad Religion
Album: New Maps of Hell
"One of the earliest SoCal punk bands, they don't necessarily get better with age but are certainly more focused. This album's a grower, and even though it was produced by Joe Barrasi (Weezer, Tool, QOTSA) it avoids emo pretensions."

porcelien.png> Amy Fuga
Artist: Porcelain and the Tramps
Album: Porcelain and the Tramps demo (songs include: My Leftovers, Redlight District, King of the World, You want, transparent and I feel Perfect)
"I stumbled across this band whilst on Myspace and although its quite different from my preferred music, I thought the vocalist had a unique voice which suits the style of music."

architectureinhelsinki.png> Chris Duckett
Who: Architecture In Helsinki
Albums: In Case We Die, Fingers Crossed
"This is the soundtrack that your mother never played when you were learning nursery rhymes. It's just so beautiful, catchy and ethereal."

mika.png> Jeremy Roche
Artist: Mika
Album: Life In Cartoon Motion
"Mika sounds like a mix between the Scissor Sisters and Freddy Mercury. Feel-good pop music that makes me want to boogie, whether I'm on the dancefloor, in my living room or on the bus to work."

kaiserchiefs.png> Luke Anderson
Artist: Kaiser Chiefs
Album: Yours truly, Angry Mob
"Kaiser Chiefs' sophomore effort, " Yours truly, Angry Mob", supersedes their debut album, "Employment" and while it takes a while to warm to it, the album is well worth a play. They're touring Down Under in a few weeks so I'm giving it a few more spins in the lead up to hearing them live!"

sonsanddaughters.png> Brendon Chase
Artist: Sons and Daughters
Album: The Repulsion Box
"Right now? I'm rediscovering this classic indie band from Scotland called Sons and Daughters (I had misplaced the CD). They remind me of The Violent Femmes with a bit more country influence. The album is short and punchy with each song in itself sounding like a hit single. Don't listen to me though -- go and listen."

Well that's us in a musical nutshell this week. Use the comments section below and tell us what you think we should be listening to right now.

Artist: Interpol Album/Song: Heinrich Maneuver This has to be the new anthem for the westcoast eagles right? What better way to run out on to the paddock with the first verse screaming "How are things at the westcoast?"
